Weekly Gardening post...

I spent an hour today just potting some seedlings and new little annuals for my hanging baskets and such.  I really enjoy this time of year playing with plants.  And here are some pictures to show off my work.  The Aerogarden sprouts are a week old and they are coming up fast!

It should view as a slide show. . . .

My indoor gardening

I originally purchased my first Aerogarden over 2 years ago on the glowing review from Lynn.  Since then I have grown many herbs at ease.  Well this year, I've expanded a little.

I decided to try my hand at some lettuce and mix it in with my herbs in my 7-pod original Aerogarden.  Let me say WOW, lettuce grows like a weed and took over the Aerogarden.  So, I've had to rethink how I want to grow both crops.

Then for Valentine's day, I purchase a 3 pod Aerogarden to bring spring early into my home.  The colors and smell now are wonderful and just make my living room more cheery.  These flowers should remind blooming for the next 2 months, then I'll replant more just for my living room.

Last week they had a clearance sale on a 6 pod Aerogarden for $50!  Well, that is how much I paid for the 3 pod, so I jumped on the opportunity and now will use it as the herb garden and my 7 pod for my lettuce garden!  One day I might do tomatoes too, but being I'm the only one that eats them, it might be over kill.

Here are my 3 gardens.  The top one is the 7 pod, which I'm about to replant once I move my herbs into real pots later this weekend.  Next is my newly acquired 6 pod, it's started with herbs and lastly my 3 pod blooming beautifully:

I swear by the ease and production of these great investments.  It's a fun thing to watch grow and you have fresh herbs at your finger tips!  Just wish I had more space for a few more :)

Spring has arrived!!

And let me say, I for one WELCOME IT WITH OPEN ARMS!!!  I need the sunshine and this is the first time in 5 years where I didn't make a trip down to Florida, which adds to my depressed state of mind.  I'm getting there though.

With spring and a few warm days we have had in the past few weeks, I have been planting and clearing our yard.  It's soo bad, we have let it go.  Another sign showing me how sad our little family was.  So, this spring we are working together as a family to redo our entire yard with new flower beds and future backyard parties!

Here's my first flowers that opened:

Here's my assorted pots of flowers - I have hyacinths, pansies/violets, tulips, thyme, basil, lavender, mint and a strawberry (which I had to bring in this past weekend because it got REALLY cold here):

And I learned a lesson, do not start seeds outside....squirrels love to dig up empty fresh pots....ugh...and it was more herbs, guess I'll just buy plants:

Now waiting for temps to go back up in the high 50's to low 60's at the end of this week to do more outside gardening.

Halloweenie decorations....

Do you have yours up?  I do, finally!   Also, I have several Halloween themed quilts hanging around the house....

This one is from Ms. Betsy, who sent it to me last year and hangs in my sewing studio:

This one I made as a sampler for the shop last year and my longarmer quilted it with candy corn, it hangs in place of my sunflower quilt in the dinning room:

And this quilt is our couch quilt.  It's perfect now that it is getting chilly and I refuse to turn the heat on yet.  I made this from a row swap I did a few years ago:

Of course I have about 4 other ones in the works, can't have enough Halloweenie things/quilts in my house.

Challenge time....I haven't given anything away in a long time, so I have some Halloweenie panels and fabric to donate to the winner.  What you need to do is post your Halloweenie quilts (or if you don't have one yet, your halloween decorations) and be sure to comment here, so I can go and see.  I'll put everyone's name in a hot and have my youngest child pick a winner, from the comments that qualify.  If you want an extra drawing in the hat, pass on the info.  We'll pick the winner a week from today, Monday October 19th.  Please share your Halloweenie quilts with me!!

Wordless Wednesday

Flowers from my garden.

visit wordless wednesday

The day after...

and I have beautiful toes...and no, you don't need to see a picture of them!

Thank you all for the wishes and great suggestions, including some great links on my Birthday-Earth day post!  I don't know if I'll get to respond to each comment, but I'll make the effort later today.

So, I'm off of work today and plan to sew the binding on to the Touch of Lime quilt, then work on my Orange Crush part 2 a little and work on some laundry and work on my sunflower 9-patch.

I'll do a wordless picture later today---planning to pick some flowers from my garden.  I love this time of year!

Pictures!!!

Wow, apparently I've been holding out....lots of fun pictures!

First non-quilty pictures and involves animals....meet Mr. Robin. He is one of many robins who have arrived this spring in my yard fighting for a mate and dominance in the yard. Well, apparently he thinks his reflection is a big threat and proceeded to peck the heck out of my poor van's window to show who's boss. This wasn't the last time I've seen him do this ---I caught him in the act again the next morning on the front of the van fighting with his reflection!

Next picture is another spring related picture...my kitties enjoy the view from the back door when it's open. I have had to install a "lock" so the kitties don't open the screen door.

One more non-quilty picture and this one involves my Aerogarden....I can't say enough, this is just the coolest thing ever!! It's been 3 weeks now and I have lots of green! It's almost harvest time:

More pictures.....can you stand it? Now for quilty images.

I signed up for a mini birthday block swap back in February and being my birthday is in April I have already received my first block from Linda Schultn. I asked for pink and white blocks to add to the Quilt Pink project I'm still working on (unfortunately those tops won't make it into this years auctions, but definitely for next year):

Completed another quilt and presented it to the new owner yesterday. I love getting such a warm fuzzy reaction when folks see my quilts. This is Tara's Comfort Knot Again the crazy color fabric represents the chaos of the world and the knot (being Celtic and mom/dad have irish in them) represents the calm, love and comfort of the family to protect Tara. The backing with dragons is to represent her daddy - he goes by the name of Dragon at our local Ren Faire. It is 48" square.

And finally, MORE BINDING! :) I finished cutting the remaining tops bindings last night and going to be sewing/ironing them today....I'll post my final total later on, but I love taking pictures and look how cool this is:

I do have one more series of pictures to share, but I need to retake them -- they were blurry. My husband finally put up my mini quilt wire hanger that runs the width of my sewing area about 12 feet.

Off I go to sew, sew, sew.

Picture pages..

finished all 5 of my blocks for this month's project.  Had to manipulate the paper piecing pattern because of the flag going the wrong way, but all in all pretty easy to do at 9".

dsc04965.jpgdsc04971.jpgdsc04973.jpg

I'm still working on the layout for the 5 blocks, but that will happen over the next month.  I figured my newbies to paper piecing in the club will have enough to do over the month with these 5 blocks.

I have SPOUTS!  I'm very excited in my newest garden - the Aero-Garden.  My friend Lynn, has raved about hers for over a year now and I finally took the plunge!  And I can tell ya the excitement this little gizmo creates, I'll definitely be getting a few more.  I need one more for lettuce and a small one with flowers to put in my sewing studio.  My intiatation is the herb garden.  I started it on Sunday afternoon and I have 3 pods with spouts.  Very exciting!

dsc04980.jpgdsc04983.jpgdsc04984.jpgdsc04982.jpg

Now to spend the morning doing laundry and packing for tomorrow's trip.  I leave mid-afternoon to Philly to see my youngest son graduate from his culinary arts program.  It's going to be a long day.
