Roadtrip anyone?

Spend yesterday in the car traveling to Amish country to hit quilt shops!  It was a blast!  We had a van full of ladies and came home with treasures galore!  Sauders was having a huge truck sale, where most fabric was under $3.99/yard.  And I found some perfect backings and even purchase a whole bolt of fabric (for $1.50/yard)...a WHOLE BOLT?!!!  I've never done that!  Don't think I will again, but wow!!

Only 1/2 of the 6 Pack went (Jackie II, Eva and Me), but we were all there in spirit with various phone calls throughout the day.  Margie, her cousin, and Debbie were our traveling mates on this road trip.

We hit Sauders first in Denver, Pennsylvania:

Then we hit Burkholders on the other side of Denver, Pa, which I have been to before with Cheryl and love this shop, but come to realized it's one of the most expensive in Amish land--still cheaper than main stream quilt shops though:

And lastly, Cedar Lane Dry Goods.  Our driver, Margie said her Mennonite friends like this shop.  It was ok, but I think Sauders was my favorite out of this trip.  Though we did see some local customers:

To learn more about Amish shops, I found this great website and might have to start making more road trips up to try each of them out.

I think I'm done shopping until we hit Lancaster's shop in a few weeks.  I have very specific things to look for and sticking to a list when we go!  It's only 4 weekends away!

  1. I would love to take a road trip to Amish country. It is too bad I live so far away. I am taking a road trip this July with my Quilting Peeps to Sisters Oregon - I am so excited!! There are a ton of great quilt shops in Oregon and I have never been to the Sisters Quilt show.

  2. Toni what fun.
I love Amish country though I have never been in an Amish quilt shop.
I buy fabric by the bolt all the time especially the 108inch ones for backing and muslin and batting by the roll.
    So much more economical.
