Wave Our Colors!

Almost done with this project, thinking- - - hoping- - - to complete it by end of week, but I have finished the top now. I'm very happy with the results and it's larger now and feels more like a table runner!

Things I have learned this week and need to document:

1. Making a flange is EASY and such a neat visual effect.
2. Stick to using batting - unless I'm doing a flannel quilt.
3. Overlap the binding ends the width of the binding, then sew to make it continuous.
4. It takes about 6 hours to hand sew binding to a 45 x 54 size quilt.

Need to design the quilting I want to do on this project. Thinking a star over the blue churn dash block and waves horizontally through the rows.

  2. I love your runner! Churn Dash is one of my favorite blocks, and it's wonderful in the 'star' section of your flag runner. Do you mind telling what size your CD block is?

  5. I really like this. A quilt with this pattern will really stand out. I am one of the few people I know that enjoys hand sewing the binding, so that it takes that much time surprised me.

  6. Hi, Your runner is very nice. My name is Toni born on May 1st and I love to quilt. Just thought it was cool to see someone with my name and birthmonth in blogland. Hope you have a great week...Toni

This tablerunner is so cool! I love that it's a flag but it's not a flag. The churn dash idea is fun (I think a star is a great quilting choice over it) but the angled stripes are truly inspired! Really like this.

  8. I love everything about the way this turned out. It's a table runner, right? It would also make a great wall hanging. May I suggest you consider an idea? Instead of quilting horizontally across the rows why don't you consider quilting a wavy line diagonally from the bottom left to the top right up the center of each "diagonal stripe"? The way I picture it in my head it would look like the flag was waving in the breeze. Just an idea - it's your quilt, of course you should do whatever you like! :-)
