UFO Challenge #4

Well Ms. Nancy did her magic and picked out #4 for January's UFO for the month.

That is this:

More details.....I took part of a swap in 1999 (yeppers, this project is over 10 years old!) where we picked out background fabric out and selected a block.  Mailed out our fabric and the swappers added theirs.  I ended up with 16 blocks and made a few more extras to make this quilt larger for my husband who is a big University of Tennessee fan.  I had to redo a lot of the blocks and then when I started putting the rows together, I got so frustarted with how the blocks weren't lining up, I just put this project away.  I'm still embarressed by how it lays out on the design wall, but at this point I just want it done and pray my longarmers can do magic for it to lay down flat.  So basically all I need to do is finishing sewing the rows together, add a the top/bottom inner borders pieces and an outer border.  I already have the backing and enough orange for the binding.   I should be able to knock this UFO out quickly.

  1. I love the Churn Dash block! I actually am finishing up a churn dash this morning. It should be off the frame by lunch. Check my blog this afternoon for how I battled the "not so perfect" blocks. I added a bit more sashing to the left of the first row...and then a litttle more to the far right on the second row...kept alternating this...So, when the quilt was sashed it did not show how off the blocks actually were.

  5. I'vew always been a Churn Dash fan, especially to showcase a design or fabric in the center of the block (almost every quilt I've made for my daughter is a Churn Dash). Good luck finishing this UFO in January. My #4 is around 4 years old and was started for a friend that bought the fabrics and asked me to make her a quilt. Looks like she'll be getting it inside of 5 years hehehe

  6. I think it's going to turn out great. That's one of the problems with swaps, etc. Not everyone has an accurate 1/4 inch seam....and not everyone cuts accurately. I'm going to enjoy watching the process on this one. Be sure and post lots of pics!!!

  7. Oh wow, in orange it really looks cool!! I have some Black and White Churn Dash blocks I need to do something with. I think this just might inspire me.

    Hugs!

  8. I know how discouraging it can be when swap blocks don't fit together well. But you can finish this jiffy quick and have one UFO done already!

  9. I love all the pretty oranges in this one. Is it horrible that when I first glanced at it, I thought it was University of Texas? :P You're going to feel sooo good when it's done-- so keep at it. You can do it!
