Quilty kinda week . . .

I finally made my way to the local quilt guild on Monday night.  The Ritzy Thimble is the guild in Oak Ridge, TN.  They are a new guild with 70 members and currently closed for new membership (due to limitations put on them by the rental room they use monthly).  I'm on the waiting list and hopefully will be a member in Janauary.  I was easily amused at how this guild is no different to the guilds I've been to before.  Same type of ladies, just different faces.  My friend who invited me felt the need to apologized for how the meeting ran and told her not to worry, I've seen worse and felt right at home.  Granted I think I was the youngest person in the room! 

The meeting had several wonderful quick gift ideas for the holidays, so I think I'm going to pull out some stuff and "whip" up some gifts this weekend and get my holiday groove on!

Lessons Learned. . .

Always the hard way, ya know?


So, I'm working on another lonestar last week and very proud of my progress, moving along quickly and finished piecing and cutting all the strips, then piecing the perfectly fitting diamonds....then putting all 8 of those diamonds together to only realize. . . . .I cut at the wrong angle and ending making 6 points verses 8 points....le sigh.  The kicker?

I originally cut the correct angle on the first strip set and thought "shoot that was the wrong angle"....I had 60 degrees stuck in my head for some reason....needless to say, strips must be cut at 45 degrees (ya know the math of 8 times 45 equals 360....ya know a full circle - - ugh!!). 

Oh well, it still turned out nicely and will work fine as a 6 point star and a smaller quilt top, but I'm very sure I won't forget to ever cut the strips at 45 degrees again.  I'm using black as the background and some cool chili pepper fabric as the border.
